Dr. Joye A. Norris writes a quick read, but very powerful teaching tool in From Telling to Teaching.
Folks from the AET program will appreciate references to Parker Palmer's The Courage to Teach.
From Telling to Teaching is a Learner-centered approach to educative events, and it written in a way to provide the adult educator with several strategies and tools for improving the effectiveness of their learning events.
I am hooked with the line "a quick read".
ReplyDeleteSeriously, this sounds like a very helpful book. Since I am fairly new to education, I sometimes struggle with being more learner-centered. I am always looking for "strategies and tools for improving the effectiveness" of my teaching.
I am looking forward to learning more.
I'll be re-reading Dr. Norris' book in order to examine more closely the concepts she proposes for us.
ReplyDeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you selected this book...it is the other book that I really wanted to read, but had to order online. It has since come, and I'm hoping to get to it in my "free" time.
Nice, nice job on your review, Annie. I read and reviewed the same book so my compliment is gounded in knowledge. It is easy to forget some of these learner-centered concepts and this little book is such a nice, easy way to refresh, remind and find!
